Shelley Stevenson

Shelley Stephenson Shelley's mother, Mary Alice Stalcup, introduced her to the dance floor before she was able to walk. Ballet slippers and tap shoes have always been staples in her closet. Starting at the age of three, Shelley's own love of dance, along with her mother's support and encouragement, would make her life very different from that of a "regular" Enid youth. Her summers were spent traveling to various locales, including Los Angeles and New York, where she studied under many great teachers and choreographers. However, her mother was, by far, her favorite teacher and her mentor and, though retired from the dance scene for several years now, Mary Alice continues to inspire Shelley.

Shelley continued her education at the University of Oklahoma, where she received her BA degree with a minor in dance. Upon graduation, she returned to Enid to  join the teaching staff at Stalcup Dance alongside her mother. In addition to her teaching position at Stalcup (then named the Mary Alice Stalcup School of Dance), Shelley owned and operated her own studios in Hennessey, Kingfisher, and Alva (all in Oklahoma) from 1985 to 2002.

Under the mother/daughter team, the Stalcup studio brought the competitive dance scene to Enid! Dancing Dynamics was the first competitive dance company in Enid and competed in numerous competitions every year. The team acquired so many awards and trophies that their display had to be rotated due to lack of space in the studio. Dancing Dynamics was also privileged to participate in Innsbruck Tansommer, the largest dance event in Austria. Tansommer features dance companies from around the world and participation is by invitation only.

In 2009, Dancing Dynamics joined forces with Kari’s Dance Academy of Emporia, Kansas. The two teams merged into Starfire Dance Company and have become a highly successful competitor with a stellar reputation. Their achievements continue today with creative and masterful choreography to showcase talented dancers in several genres of dance.

Shelley has also served as judge and choreographer for many dance competitions and pageants over the years. Her knowledge and love of dance is well-known and greatly appreciated in the dance and performace community.

Kara McIntyre

Kara McIntyre Kara began dancing in Tulsa, OK at the age of 4. She quickly developed a love for dance, with a focus on ballet, jazz and contemporary styles. She participated in four seasons of Tulsa Ballet’s “The Nutcracker” as well as their summer workshop “Pointe to the Future.”

While in high school, Kara was a member of the pom squad and began assisting classes at her dance studio. Kara attended the University of Oklahoma where she majored in Communications. During her four years in college, she taught dance for a local company and it was there that her love for teaching children grew.

Kara worked in Corporate Communications in Tulsa before her husband took a job in Enid. She joined the staff at Stalcup Dance in the fall of 2011 and has loved every minute of it!!

Kara never met a student she didn't love and they love her back. Kara has introduced several new classes to the Stalcup curriculum and contributes on a daily basis to the success of Stalcup Dance.
